Summer Season 2010

22nd July:- The last game was against Bryants Jesters and Phoenix Power took the win although the scoreline didnt represent how close the game was. This match ended te Summer season where Phoenix player a lot of new opposition and kept winning ways only loosing 3 games to finish 2nd in the table securing promotion. We now await the start of the winter league in September. Well done girls!!

8th July:- The second from last game of the summer season for Phoenix Power and a win tonight against Matthews Minx's would secure second in the table, giving Phoenix promotion for next season. This match saw the return of Sam, and she didn't disappoint, playing well from the off as if she hadn't been away. The match started quite even but some interceptions by Phoenix gave them the oppotunities to get more chances, Phoenix took the lead 10-6, then stepped up a gear for the second quarter winning 12-5. Chantel & Sam worked really well together in the attacking circle while Emma & Laura closed down Minx's attackers better. After half time the chances were quite even with Minx's winning the quarter 5-6. Phoenix then got back into the groove for the last quarter winning it 10-3 to win the match 37-20. It was a smooth performance with the whole team having a good game. Jen got player of the match for her speed, great passing and her defending duties. Well done Jen :)

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sarah, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Chantel, GS - Sam

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st July:- This game was against Bournemouth11, Phoenix went into this match with no shooters, and it looked like it would be a struggle. Thankfully Andi became available, which was a blessing. The game was not plain sailing though as it was close at times but to be fair the umpiring was pretty woeful with contact on the ball not being blown up and contact and throw ins going in the offending teams favour, this made the game turn quite bitty and physical, it was so bad at one point Pete (Emmas bloke) made a comment and had to apologise straight away. Anyway the scores went 6-4, 6-5, 6-1, 11-3 so Phoenix won 29-13. with Andi getting player of the match for her good dodges and shooting. Newbie spectator Peers made a name for himself for his unorthadox shouts from the sidelines and with Andi's daughter doing her homework too it was all going on.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Caroline, C - Sophie, WA - Sian Jnr, GA - Jen, GS - Andi

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

24th June :- This match was against Verwood Rubies, and as the report writer was away racing his motorbike, all I can saw is that Phoenix won 44-17.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

17th June :- Peeks were back and they had a few new players, Phoenix started ok winning the first quarter 9-6, but slipped up in the second quarter to lose 3-6, this was Sophie's first game back after she had laser eye surgery. At half time she opted to come off as she wasn't back to full fitness. After a few more position shuffles, Phoenix found a better rhythm winning the next two quarters 7-1 & 10-6. Player of the match went to Chantel for her shooting.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10th June:- Clarkes were a team we beat earlier in the season but they only had 6 players and they did quite well with the deficit. Some of our players went to watch the opposition when they were playing. They looked handy, so Phoenix went into this match not underestimating them. It seemed closer then the scores show with Phoenix winning the game 7-3, 14-1, 8-3, 5-8 to win 34-15. Player of the match went to Emma again for her defence.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27th May :- This game was an oppotunity to get even with Liiliputs1 who beat Phoenix by just 2 goals earlier in the season in wet conditions. It also saw the return of Andi from her broken ankle, but Sophie was unable to play due to her eyes being lasered in the next few days. Phoenix started slow and Lilliputs' good defence kept the shooters out of the game with them winning the quarter 2-5. The next two quarters were similar with Lilliputs winning them both 4-7, in the last quarter Phoenix Power found something winning the quarter 6-4 but this wasn't enough to get the 2 important bonus points. Player of the match went to Emma for her good defending.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

20th May :- After dominating the first match against Standard life by winning 41-6, Phoenix went into this match feeling confident. Unfortunately Sophie had to drop out of the game as she was getting her eyes sorted. This match also saw the welcomed return of Emma. Phoenix played better than Standard Life but were not playing their best winning the game 29-19, with the quarter scores being 7-5, 8-8, 7-4, 7-2. Jen got player of the match again, so thats two in a row, well done Jen.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Caroline, C - Sarah, WA - Jen, GA - Chantel, GS - Sofie

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13th May :- This match was against Bryants Jesters3, In the first quarter it was quite even but Jesters were finished ahead 7 goals to Phoenixs 6. For the next quarter Phoenix made up ground winning the it 12-10,the third quarter ended all square 11-11 so it was close but in the final quarter Phoenix pulled away winning it 12-7 ending in a win by 6 goals with the final score being 41-35. Player of the match went to Jen, well done :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29th April :- This match was against Matthews Minxs, Phoenix didnt have their strongest team out and at the end of the match Minxs took the win by 2 goals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22nd April :- This match was against Bournemouth11, In the first quarter it was quite even but Phoenix got a break and stretched the score to 9-5. For the rest of the match Phoenix dominated, winning the remaining quarters 13-3, 16-5 & 14-7 with the final score being 52-20. Player of the match went to Chantel we think. Thanks to Sian Francis for stepping in to help again.

Team:- GK - Caroline, GD - Laura, WD - Loan Sian F, C - Sarah, WA - Sian Jnr, GA - Jen, GS - Chantel

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15th April :- This match was against Verwood Rubies, Phoenix won convincingly 40-13 even with Sophie Nash only able to play one quarter due to illness. Sofie Churchill received player of the match for her consistent shooting. Sarah played centre for the first time and did well. Sian Francis also stepped in to help.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st April :- This match was against old rivals Peeks/Priory4, but the game ended before it started as the opposition conceeded before the Phoenix turned up. This result gave Phoenix the top of the league but other teams have a game in hand and there is a long way to go. But a good start for the girls in what is theoretically a jump in 2 divisions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

25th March :- Clarkes Buildings were the opposition for this match but they only had 6 players, Phoenix used this to their advantage, winning 34-24. Player of the match is unknown at this moment :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

18th March :- This match was against Lilliputs and it was raining very hard. Playing in the rain is something that Phoenix Power have to work on and by all accounts the match was very close but the score went the way of Lilliputs by just 2 goals with the score being 27-29. Player of the match went to Chantel again, well done girl.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11th March :- The new season began with a match against one of the teams' old rivals - Standard Life. Last season they managed to beat us but we set the record straight in the rematch. In the monday practice before the game, one of our newest members, Andi, unfortunately broke her ankle, and with Sofie unwell & Sam out of the action, we were left with only one shooter - Chantel. We greatly appreciated Caroline stepping in by playing out of position in the attacking circle as GS. Both players are also new to the team this season. Sarah, the final new 'signing' for Phoenix watched from the sidelines as reserve. The game started well for Phoenix with the practice between seasons showing well worth it as the score ended 9-1 after the first quarter. Phoenix continued this form throughout the remainder of the match with all players contributing very well, finally ending with a very dominating scoreline of 41-6. Player of the match went to new player Chantel, whose shooting was consistently excellent.

Team:- GK -Laura, GD - Emma, WD - Sian Jnr, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Chantel, GS - Caroline

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inbetween seasons there was much needed interest from a number of players to join the team as other teams have folded or are also struggling for players. With Amanda & Sian Rixon out due to 'bumps' & Sam deciding to take a back seat from playin the team was left with just 6 core players including only one shooter. The 4 new players that 'signed' are Andi & Chantel who are shooters, Sarah who plays WD/WA & Caroline who plays in GD/GK. These players are very welcome and we hope you all enjoy being part of the team.

Winter Season 2009

Phoenix Power ended top of the table for the second season in a row. But it was a lot more of a challenge this time round due to players being ill and/or unavailable & pregnancies. The team was down to the bare 7 by mid season and with people away at times, friends/family of players were signed on to help out when Phoenix were low on numbers. There have also been on court disputes, playing with 6 players for the entire match and multiple illnesses through the season; all these things made it hard for the team but we have coped well with adversity to retain the top of the division. Well done everyone including all the additional players that have stepped in to help the team out, without you, we would not have achieved anywhere near as much.

3rd Feb :- Versatility Tournament

Phoenix ended the season playing the versatility tournament with a few players absent, it was a close number of games but Phoenix missed out on the top two positions in the tournament due to goal difference. Never mind girls, cant win em all.

27th Jan :- A win or draw in this match would guarantee topping the division for Phoenix Power so the nerves were tingling a bit, even 2 points ‘could’ be enough but the players didn’t have that on their mind. Standard life can be a tough opposition, they are one of the two teams that have managed to beat us this season. A late new player was subbed in aswell to the make the game more dramatic but Liz played extremely well especially considering she hasn't played netball for a while. The girls got off to a good start winning the first quarter 9-3. In the second session it was a bit closer as Phoenix were sometimes too eager to pass quickly so some of their passes were intercepted. They still stretched out their lead slightly though as Phoenix scored 6 to Standard Lifes 4. The second half of the game saw Phoenix step it up a gear winning the third quarter 10-1. Standard Life appeared defeated in the final quarter and didnt score a goal whereas Phoenix scored another 10 with the final score ending a dominant 35-8, cementing the team as Division winners for the second season on the bounce. On the other court, Minxs seemed to struggle against Lilliputs2 loosing their match so it all seemed to go our way in the last couple of games. Sophie got player of the match - thats two games running - well done :) Just the versatility tournament left before the 'summer' season starts in march.

Team:- GK -Laura, GD - Emma, WD - Liz, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam

20th Jan :- As the whistle blew for the start of the game, something was missing - the opposition. Not enough players from Scarlet Ladies had turned up, so after about 5 minutes we were told that they forfeited the match. This gave Phoenix Power the win and automatic promotion as now we couldn’t be caught for second place. But in one of the other matches, Standard Life managed to beat Matthews Minxs, so this returned control of the division 8 to Phoenix Power and a 3 point lead with only 1 game to play (against Standard Life).

13th Jan :- After last weeks cancellation of the match against Standard life, this game was the first game back in about one and a half months. The opposition was Peeks/Priory4. Phoenix turned up to only have 6 players available after Emma found herself unable to start her car. With a depleted team, Sian Jnr had to play out of position in Goal Keeper. After a bright start Phoenix conceded some goals due to Peek's prime shooter, the score ending 8-4 to Peeks. In the break experienced defender Laura was switched with Sian Jnr so Laura would mark their best shooter. It worked well and with everyone picking up their game, including Sam's shooting being on fire, Phoenix got their heads in front and never got caught even with only 6 players, the final score being 39-27. With no wing defence Laura, Sian Jnr & Sophie were getting tired, but played well to keep the shots to a minimum. For her efforts Sophie got player of the match. Well done girls.

Team:- GK -Laura, GD - Sian Jnr, WD - N/A, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam

25th Nov :- This match was against Matthews Minxs and with Scarlet ladies conceeding their game, this game was the fight for top of the league. Unfortunately Phoenix had 3 regular players unavailable. The match started close with the score being 4-4 after the first quarter, but the second quarter is where things started to go wrong with mistakes creeping in and Minxs taking advantage scoring 9 goals to Phoenix Powers 1. The third quarter being closer but again Minxs extended their league by 3 goals. Sam managed to make it for the last quarter and it looked like it would turn things around with 2 early goals but then Minxs fought back to win the quarter 6-2, winning the match 24-9 leaving Phoenix without getting a much needed point from the game. This gave Minxs the top of the league by 1 point and with only 3 games remaining, to top the league Phoenix have to hope that Minxs have some bad luck in their final games. Player of the match went to Laura again.

Team:- GK -Sian F, GD - Laura, WD - Sarah, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Becky, GS - Sofie, Res - Sam

18th Nov :- Enter the most dramatic game ever, the opponents were BJC Angels, thankfully the weather was better then last week, plus everyone was available, it looked set to be a good game. Phoenix took a 2-0 lead in the first few minutes, then took their foot off the gas allowing Angels to take the lead, up until the last few minutes where Phoenix came back to sneak the win in the quarter 10-8. The second quarter was Phoenix back in full swing taking 8 goals to 2. After the half time break, It seemed to be pretty even the scoreline being only 3-3. Angels seemed to have improved their defence and Jen & Sophie were finding it harder to get the ball into the circle. This frustration resulted in a couple of our own players having an argument about it during the quarter which ended up with the team being down to 6 players. For the rest of the quarter, with a lot of encouragement from the sideline, Phoenix put on a dazzling display of keeping possession in the attacking third. With only one shooter, who was double marked, it was tough to get anymore shots off. But Sofie managed to get in positions to receive the ball for a shot or two, both were far from the post but very close to going in. It was quite surreal with the girls keeping possession for 2 or 3 minutes at one point and Angels unable to intercept it. Anyway, the quarter ended at 3-3 with all the girls knackered by constantly running and dodging to keep the ball. It was quite a spectacle. For the last quarter, with an 8 goal lead, the team was re-arranged with Sian Rixon happy to play the last 15. It was an even quarter with no dramas, ending 6-6. The final score being 27-19, well done girls for tackling the situation well by playing on to the end and well done to Sofie for player of the match.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sian Jnr, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam, Res - Sian

11th Nov :- Lilliputs2 were the opponents for this game and unfortunately Sofie was still unwell but thankfully Sam was available for the match. Sian Francis was also unwell, so Sam's daughter Becky stepped into the role of Wing Defence to help the team out. Seconds before the game, typically it started to drizzle, and throughout the game it got progressively worse. Unlike the weather though, Phoenix Power started brightly winning the first quarter an impressive 7-0, although Lilliputs' shooter was late and played WD when she arrived. For the second quarter Lilliputs rearranged their team and were more of a problem, catching up scoring 9 goals to our 6, but really it was a few mistakes in the dismal conditions by Phoenix that allowed Lilliput to have more chances. But all credit to the girls, in the third quarter they were bang on form with 6 goals to none up when a few tumbles occured and we asked for the court to be inspected. It was decided by the umpires that we would swap courts as there was a dangerous puddle inside one of the 'D's. The time that was lost would be added on at the end of the game. So with a 10 goal lead into the final extended quarter, the girls again got stuck in with a great performance scoring 14 goals to Lilliputs' 2 ending the match with another win, the score being 33-11. The Phoenix Power supporters club got soaked but didn't mind as it was another dominant performance from the girls. Player of the match went to Laura again for her excellent defending. Also, a big thanks to Sophie for the lend of her hooded jacket that kept my head dry :)

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Becky Ryan, C - Sophie, WA - Sian Jnr, GA - Jen, GS - Sam,

4th Nov :- Tonights game was against Wooton Lodge and in the build up to the match it looked like it was going to be a tough game having the possibilty of no shooters due to illness and other commitments, and even the possibility of only having 5 players for the start. Sian Francis stepping in to help the team for numbers was a great relief. It turned out that there were 6 players available for the start but still no shooters, as Sian Rixon was going to be late. So a mishmash of a team was sorted losing out on a Wing Defence, Sian F being in WA, and Sian Jnr & Jen as shooters. After 10 minutes, Sian arrived and joined as WD, but the quarter ended with a respectable 4-5 to Wooton. Now that Phoenix had 7 players, the team was re-arranged and they played better although both Jen & Sian Jnr were still playing out of their usual position, and Sian F was playing her first game for the team. At half time however Phoenix played well enough to take the lead 15-11. An equal third quarter kept the scoreline gap the same being 21-17. In the final quarter the girls made a final push to the end with the final score being 30-22. It was a closer match then the score shows but Phoenix Power's effort and determination to win kept them fighting and it was a well deserved victory. Unfortunately Wooton Lodge decided not to give a player of the match, so they all get it :)

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sian F, C - Sophie, WA - Sian Jnr, GA - Jen, GS - Sian,

28th Oct :- Now halfway through the season, it was time for the division 8 American tournament. Matthews Minx's were not competing so there was only 6 games to play. The American tournament consists of 8 minute games (4 each way) against each team, and an overall winner having the best results across all the games. Phoenix Power were first pitted against Wooton Lodge where they started brightly then fell asleep only to come back to win 8-6 in the second half. The next game was against Lilliputs2, the score was 7-4 to Phoenix with no major dramas. Game three was against BJC Angels where Phoenix won 5-1. Now was a chance to rest as they were spare, but the last three games were against teams higher in the league. First it was Standard Life, the only team that Phoenix have lost to so far this season. Standard Life seemed confident but were brushed aside quite easily, 7-3 being the scoreline. Peek were next up, in the first few minutes it was quite close and one of the opposition was playing dirty, holding or obstructing the shooter and a few cross words were said, it ended as yet another win at 5-2. The last match was against Scarlet Ladies, now second in the league. We knew they drew with peeks but couldnt be sure of the rest of their results, so only a win will do. Their team didn't seem as effective as when we played them last week, and the score was a convincing 10-3. This meant that Phoenix Power won all their games giving them the tournament victory. Well Done Girls!!!

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sian Jnr, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam,

21st Oct:- This match was the battle for supremacy in Division 8 at the half way stage of the season. Phoenix Power came within 1 point of the division leaders Scarlet Ladies last week after Scarlet lost to Matthews Minx's, while Phoenix dominated their game against Peeks/Priory 4. Now Phoenix were to play the division leaders for the first time this season. It was a shaky start for Phoenix conceding goals early on, ending the first quarter behind by 4 goals: the score being 7-11. The Scarlet Ladies shooters were very consistent, however after the change of ends Phoenix defended well and managed to get into their well known formidable rhythm, managing to score 10 goals in the second quarter to Scarlet's sole goal. After half time it was a bit closer but Phoenix Power extended their lead from 5 to 7 going into the final quarter. Another dominating display with quick passes, excellent shooting and tightdefending gave Phoenix a convincing win in the end with the team scoring just enough to deny Scarlet Ladies from getting a point from the game with the final score being 35-17. Player of the match went to Sophie, her fitness and relentlessness in centre being the key. Top of the League now girls, well done!!

Team:- GK - Laura, GD - Emma, WD - Sian Junior, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam

14th Oct :- Back to winning ways for Phoenix Power with a scintillating display against Peeks/Priory4, after the team photo shootout with the new sponsor present, the game started with Phoenix Power taking an early lead ending the first quarter 8-0 up. The final score was a dominating 39-8, with Laura getting player of the match due to her excellent defending, the whole team played superbly and the scoreline shows this. Tonight also saw the debut of new team player Sian 'Junior', who played brilliantly in her first game, well done Sian.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sian Junior, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sian, Res - Sam

7th Oct :- Another nail biting game, this time against Standard Life, Phoenix Power were behind from the off in very wet conditions but always managed to stay in touch in terms of score. 2 or 3 players were not really fit enough to play netball due to illness but still turned up to field a full team. The umpires deemed the final score to be 16-17 to Standard life, resulting in the first loss for Phoenix Power in months. Never mind girls. Player of the match went to Sofie Churchill, for some good movement and great shooting even with a very fast defender. She also played out of position in WD for the final quarter performing well.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Amanda, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam, Res - Sian

30th Sept :- A nail biting game between Phoenix Power and Matthews Minx's, Phoenix were ahead by one goal going into injury time only for Minx's to equalise just before the whistle was blown, the final score being just 17-17. Player of the match went to Jen, presumably for her rolly-pollys.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sarah, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sian

23rd Sept :- Another win for Phoenix Power, The scoreline was 35-25 against BJC Angels, Player of the match went to Sam for another excellent display of shooting.

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Amanda, C - Sophie, WA - Jen, GA - Sian, GS - Sam

16th Sept :- Another win for Phoenix Power, The scoreline was 36-18 against Lilliputs 2, Player of the match went to Laura for her awesome defending as usual.

Team:- GK - Sian, GD - Laura, WD - Emma, C - Sophie, WA - Amanda, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam

9th Sept :- The winter season has got underway, and Phoenix Power took a win in their opening game against Wooton Lodge. Phoenix were always infront throughout the game and the final score was 24-16 with Phoenix Power's player of the match being Sam Isaacs for some excellent shooting, well done Sam!

Team:- GK - Emma, GD - Laura, WD - Sarah, C - Sophie, WA - Amanda/Jen, GA - Sofie, GS - Sam

With the winter season starting on September 9th the girls will be hoping to continue winning ways.

2009 SUMMER SEASON
